NATIONAL HAMFEST 2009           UPDATES BELOW
Brought to you by the RSGB in association with Lincoln Short Wave Club

Friday 2 and Saturday 3 October 2009

George Stephenson Pavilion, Newark & Nottingham Showground, Lincoln Road, Winthorpe, Newark NG24 2NY.

2009 sees a new event in the Rally Calendar. The National Hamfest will be a two-day event in the Midlands, with good road and rail links to the rest of the country. It will be the biggest radio event of the year in the East Midlands and will be held in the George Stephenson Hall at the Newark Showground. This is a huge exhibition hall comprising almost three thousand square metres of exhibition space, allowing numerous spacious stands and wide aisles giving easy wheelchair access. All the major manufacturers and retailers have already agreed to have a significant presence with displays of all the latest gear. The RSGB will be in the hall with a book and services stand alongside an
RSGB Committee stand, with HQ staff and volunteers on hand. There will also be a large flea market and car boot area that can be pre-booked by clubs or individuals.

FREE DRAW
Visitors to the Hamfest will be entitled to enter a Yaesu free prize draw with a VX-8 handheld to be won each day. The RSGB will also be running free prize draw with a star prize of a Icom IC-7200 Transceiver, which will appeal to many amateurs, Waters & Stanton have offered a Heil Quiet Phone Pro headset and Martin Lynch and Sons have added a Beam in a Bag to the draw. Many more prizes are planned, so watch this space.
DISCOUNTED TICKETS
Those who purchase tickets in advance will be able to buy their tickets only £3.50 rather than the on-the-gate price of £4.50, saving £1.00. This is not the only discount: if you buy 4 tickets at the discounted price you will get an extra ticket free. So why not organise a group of friends to visit for the day? If you have a bigger group you can buy 10 tickets and get 3 extra tickets free. 07/08/2009 UPDATE !

Here’s the latest information on the National Hamfest, on 2 and 3 October, organised by RSGB in association with Lincoln Short Wave Club.

If you plan to visit just one major radio rally this year, make sure it’s the National Hamfest!

Luso Towers have been creating huge interest at Dayton and Freidrichshafen with their enormous towers. They will be visiting the National Hamfest with a 36m version. In its compact state, the four sections still take up 12.5m of floor space and the base is 1.7m across! It comes with an outside platform for easy access to the antennas as well as steps. It is computer controlled to raise and lower the mast and has a host of other features such as wind speed indicator, one touch height memory and automatic wind speed descent control. When you see this huge tower up close, it’s impressive. Luso Towers have said that the tower is, as yet, unsold and that they are willing to negotiate a very special price to any UK amateur wishing to buy the tower.

Since we last wrote to you, even more traders have booked their place. You will be able to see the latest radios on display by Icom, Kenwood & Yaesu – and talk to the staff who know the radios well. All the major dealers will be in attendance with a huge variety of radios, antennas and accessories for sale. If you want to know more about the best special interest groups in amateur radio, then this is an ideal place to visit and chat to them.

The RSGB will be in attendance with many of their committee ready to talk to members and non-members alike about their concerns and questions. Steve Nichols who has written the popular Understanding Propagation column in RadCom will be on the Propagation Committee stand. The new 2010 RSGB Yearbook will be launched on Friday 2nd at the show. There will be a great Bring & Buy too– no better time to turn out that unused equipment!

There will be a free prize draw for visitors to the show as well as a Yaesu VX-8 daily draw. Visitors could win an Icom IC-72, SuperAntennas Beam in a Bag, Heil Quiet Phone and many more excellent prizes.

Luso Towers

23/09/2009 UPDATE !

With only 8 days to go before the UK’s biggest Amateur Radio event, arrangements for the National Hamfest are in full swing. Visitors will have plenty to look at in the main hall as trader space there is totally sold out. Highlights to look forward to are finding all the main manufacturers and dealers under one roof as well as some overseas traders too. The Luso tower will be a talking point for those not lucky enough to have seen it at either the Dayton Hamvention or Friendrichshafen earlier this year.

The RSGB have a big presence at the show with representatives from their various committees and departments available with help and advice to members and non members alike. Don’t forget that the 2010 Yearbook is being launched at the show and the first 100 customers each day will receive a goody bag. Ofcom will also be exhibiting at the show and visitors will have a chance to discuss everything from licensing to PLT with them.

Some visitors will go home with a real bargain as there are two excellent free raffles taking place. Every entry ticket includes the chance to win one of the fantastic prizes on offer from the main raffle such as an IC-7200 and the chance to win a VX-8 in the daily Yaesu prize draw. Check out the latest RadCom for full details of the prizes.

Outside you’ll find more traders and a non-trade car boot sale – you can still book your spot at the car boot sale – where you’ll be certain to find a bargain or two.

We look forward to seeing many of you there over the two days.
